Profile Information

About Me:
I am from the United States yet I live in Bolivia and have for 35 years. I am inspired by the spectacular beauty of the Andes mountains, the breath taking expanses of the Altiplano, and the bio-diversity of the tropical forests.
Have you lived or worked in a developing country? What did you learn?
I live and work in Bolivia. I have learned and continue to learn daily that we all must work together to create a more egalitarian society which will lead to a more peaceful world for everyone.
Please describe the skills and abilities you have that you think will be useful for this project.
My skills are basially social in that I seem to have the ability to bring out the best in those with whom I work....be it an artisan who can expresss their appreciattion of the world around them through knitting and/or embroidering or a deaf child who needs to understand the workings of society and find a way to give and receive information about themselves and the world around them.
What should other members of this network know about you, your background, or your experience?
I would like to say that 38 years of travel and work in Bolivia has changed me from an idealistic novice to an idealistic vetran. My background as a baby boomer from the suburbs of post World War II military idustrial U.S.A. launched me into a search for meaning and fullfillment in life. My experience in working with indigenous artisans, families ofdisabled children and eco-motivated Bolivians has taught me that each step that we take on the path to creating a conscientious society is a step in the right direction.
What critical concerns or issues should Piclopedia not fail to address?
We are concerned about Gloval Warming and Climate Change while wanting to promote poverty reduction in the world. We feel that the appropriate technolgy devices that we have developed can help to create a world that will support development without the devastating consequences that the current hydro-carbon based economy is perpetuating.
We also promote the Fair Trade Movement in our work with artisans in Bolivia. If the model that is known as Fair Trade is fully embraced by a larger percentage of the producers and traders of the world, we would have greater equality and a more peaceful world. We also support the rights of the disabled in Bolivia and in the world....the right to adequate health care, an education and nondiscrimination.
Please describe any ideas you have for Piclopedia that might excite other members.
I would love to share the textile art and appropriate technolgoy designs that we have developed over the years here in Bolivia with many more people around the world who could appreciate, learn and benefit from them.
