I am passionate about open development and am heavily involved in a similar project in SE Asia. Our similarities are striking and we would benefit from collaboration
Have you lived or worked in a developing country? What did you learn?
Yes - lots.
Please describe the skills and abilities you have that you think will be useful for this project.
I am heavily involved in a very similar project. Please see our website: www.abundantwater.org - it will show you what we have done.
What should other members of this network know about you, your background, or your experience?
I support their work and agree with their approach. This is the future of how we will work together.
What critical concerns or issues should Piclopedia not fail to address?
Actually getting work done using an open source approach is challenging and at times frustrating. People should remember they are taking part in a great experiment and have patience and courage.
Please describe any ideas you have for Piclopedia that might excite other members.
We are working towards creating a very simple clay pot water filter. Clay pot water filters are not new at all. However, this one will be made in the location where it is needed by the local community, from their existing potting skills and with entirely locally available materials. We are piloting and trialling it now and in time we envision creating information resources that will allow this design and information to be communicated virtually where it can be of help wherever it is needed. For example in Burma last year after the borders were closed afterthe tsunami. I can see Piclopedia is working on very very similar things and I would like to form a collaboration so that we can work and share together.
